Obama talks with Tumblr users

June 10, 2014 Posted by Frank M

Quick recap
President Barack Obama teamed up with social networking site Tumblr to reach out to the indebted youth of America.

Obama is promoting the expansion of a program meant to lower the monthly payments of school tuition loans. A method of achieving this would be to cap repayments to 10% of earned income.

While at the same time, Obama hopes to give a shout out to more comprehensive bill championed by senate democrats.

The President is not shy about appearing on mediums that skew to a younger audience, and just under half of Tumblr users are in the 18-35 demo. To promote the Affordable Health Care Act, Obama went on the internet show “Between Two Ferns,” with Comedian Zack Galifianakis.

Jeff Winger at The 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner

May 4, 2014 Posted by Frank M

Around here we love Community. It’s the best show everyone’s not watching. Use #SaveGreendale and we might retweet you. (Especially this far removed from the airing of the finale.)

So what a treat it was to see Jeff Winger himself, or Joel Mchale to those who don’t live in an Abed-like-fantasy world, headlining the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The WHCD sees the President and the top dogs of the Mainstream Media dress up for a nerd prom. The night is capped by a comedic set from the president and a headlining comic. It’s a moment to celebrate how amazing it is to be able to question the head of the state, and NOT disappear into a Putin-esque leave of absence.

How DO you get HealthCare.GOV out of your carpet?

Ha! We are back!

February 5, 2014 Posted by Frank M

The server for NewsHole[DOT]Info was down for most of Wednesday.

Our apology to our readers and chronic spammers.

While we were gone, David Beckham announced he is committed to an MLS expansion team in Miami. (Fun drinking game: how many media outlets use the phrase ‘bend it like Beckham’  in their stories or headlines. ) Details were sketchy on Wednesday, but Beckham looked like James Bond all press conference long.

Miami’s Prehistoric Village went viral. (Post to come.)

Another dead face eater in South Florida.

MetroMover services were cut off during “Police Activity. ”

Alcalde M-D’s veto gets overridden.

And say it ain’t so Flea!

More to come, good to be back.

Miami Herald launches new crime blog

January 27, 2014 Posted by Frank M

Looks like Newshole[DOT]Info has a new blog-y competitor from the Miami Herald. (We take on all comers; from giant media companies, to Starbuck’s fliers.)

Deadline Miami is the daily’s new TypePad blog centering on breaking crime news. It has a fun ‘if it bleeds it leads’ feel to it. We also saw what they did with the naming bit. Good one.

At the moment, it’s produced by Jeff Kleinman, Day Editor, and features quick posts of 100+ words.

“Your link to news happening now,” is their slogan. For comparison, ours is: “SFL’s Hole for news. [Rejected Tagline].”

Today’s batch of stories included an attacked dog, murder, and a rape suspect.

Bring it.

The corpse of the #MiamiHerald building. I wonder who keeps the M and H. #Miami #Newspapers http://t.co/rfbjD688cO

They just moved and already it’s different.

It’s a scene we will see again and again as the building is torn down.

Miami Today’s iconic brick building on Brickell is already gone.
